    Review: Mentholatum Softlips

The first time I tried lipbalm on, I was 11 years old, and was on a holiday to the US. I was in a supermarket, and saw this really cute Garfield lipbalm. Mum bought it for me, and the very first time I tried the strawberry-flavoured beeswax on my lips, I was hooked.

I have tried on a lot of lipbalms for many years now, just look at my collection of hardly-used lipbalms.

    All my lipbalms

I have a tendency to buy lipbalms but ended up hardly using them because I just didn’t like the texture on my lips. More often than not, the balm’s too hard, and I ended up feeling as though I have a layer of candle wax on my lips.

Only one brand managed to attract me so much that I actually ended up using the entire tube. I’m totally in love with Metholatum’s Softlips.

    Mentholatum Softlips

My cousin Geri, whose from the US, gave me a tube to try out many years ago. The first time I used it, my reaction was, OMG, this is the best lipbalm EVER! It’s really smooth, very easy to glide on the lips. The tube’s also thinner than most lipbalms available on the market, which makes it easy to bring along with you anywhere you go (I keep mine in my pocket of my work uniform). No more chapped lips with this lippie; they last quite long, if not for the yummy flavour which always tempt me to just lick ‘em off my lips.

Another feature about this lipbalm which I like is that Softlips have quite a lot of funky flavours for you to try out. I especially like the Cocktail flavours (Margarita, Tequila Sunrise and Vodka Pineapple Splice). My favourite’s the Margarita. Yummy.

The only gripe I have about this lipbalm is … it’s not available in Malaysia! I’ve been looking everywhere for it, but to no avail. I’m not sure if independent drugstores in KL store this though. If anyone manages to find this in Malaysia, please do let me know. I stocked up when I was in Australia; it costs AUD$2.50 per tube (I think, can’t really recall the exact price).

What I like about it: Easy-glide on the lips, long-lasting, and delicious flavours

What I don’t like about it: It’s not available in Malaysia (boo!)

Ooh sounds nice! Especially Vodka Pineapple Slice, Vodka being my drink of choice hehe… Haven’t seen it here as part of the Mentholatum stable.

[…] Unfortunately, that’s just all about that’s good about the lip balm. It claims to moisturise lips. My lips actually felt drier after using this! Everytime I reapplied the lip balm, my lips got worse. It just felt as though the liquid was sucking the moisture out of my parched lips. I had to stop using this after a while, and went back to my Softlips. […]
